John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish, but have eternal life.

Edgar was born and raised in the urban heart of Manila, the Philippines. He came from a family of preachers. where he grew up in Methodist upbringing. He came here with his parents, Jesse and Luz de Jesus, together with his cousin Jay Apostol. Edgar's eldest sister and family reside in Cary, NC; his elder brother together with his wife reside in Lubbock, Texas and his youngest brother, Jonathan Ed, is in the Philippines.

Edgar is a Master of Divinity graduate from the Divinity School, Duke University (the first Filipino graduate after 30 years); recipient of the Dean's Scholarship, the General Board of Global Ministries Scholarship and the Leadership Development Grant Scholarship. Edgar was ordained/comissioned as Probationary Member in the 2000 North Carolina Conference in Fayetteville, the first Filipino clergy member of this Conference. He will be returning to Duke in the fall of 2001 to pursue the Master of Theology program.

Prior to coming to his church, Edgar served in a variety of ministry settings, having served a youth pastor of an 800-member urban church at Duke Memorial UMC in Durham; served as a summer youth intern in a 400-member urban suburban Hill's Chapel UMC outside of Charlotte; following at Tabernacle UMC in Robbins as an associate minister. And recently, Edgar serves as Chaplain in ecumenical homeless shelter ministry known as Jubilee House in Henderson.

Before coming to the States in 1997, Edgar pursued Psychology at the University of the City of Manila, then graduated in Social Sciences at the University of the Philippines; and later earned his MBA degree from De La Salle University.

In the Philippines, Edgar has been an active national youth leader; represented the Philippine Methodist youth in various national and international church & ecumenical gatherings such as the World Council of Churches, Asia Mission Conference, Global Gathering, Volunteers-in-Mission, World Methodist Evangelism Institute. Edgar is one of the Methodist delegations in the 8th assembly of the World Council of Church held in Zimbabwe and South Africa in 1998. He participated as a Page in the 2000 General Conference of the United Methodist Church held in Cleveland, Ohio.

Full of energy, vitality and zealousness in the ministry, Edgar is constantly being challenged by the growing need to spread the Word of God. For him, there are physical hungers for food and spiritual hungers for understanding in everywhere he goes. He witnessed people who are hungry, for freedom, for justice, for signs of hope, for healing and caring and for a vision of fullness of life.

According to Rev. De Jesus, being in the ministry is not what you do in response to God's call, rather, who you are in that response. Hence, his life experience becomes reflection of his relationship with God.
